In my last post I explained what my first brief involved, researching a subculture. As you can tell from the title of this post, I chose Steampunk. I heard about this subculture from a friend who had asked me to make her a Steampunk themed prom dress. From then on I have been interested the subculture.

First Day
I started my foundation degree in Fashion today. I got the first brief and I'm quite excited to start working on it. Its called "Introduction to fashion 2014". As part of the brief, I get look at how street styles and subcultures influence designers and their collections. I will produce a garment from the research I conduct during this brief.
The class was given a task which was to create paper garments in groups. This is what my group made. We used origami as influence for our creations and we ended up with something that looked quite visionary.
After completing our paper creation, we had to sketch it afterwards. This is my drawing.

Mid Cheshire Fashion Show 2014
All the hard work I spent on designing, toiling and manufacturing my final collection, paid off. I am so pleased with how it tuned out. All the hours of hand sewing the details on the garment were worth it, as it resulted in a innovative and creative collection.

Colombina Skirt
I have re made my Colombina skirt because I had trouble sewing the godets and needed to re sew them. I have done a better job the second time around but they could still be better. I will have to leave them as they are through because I don't have enough time to redo them again.

Ill Dottore Top
This is the top I made for my 4th outfit. I used the same patterns for my Arlecchino outfit and just made some adjustments. I removed the sleeves and shaped the top of the bodice. I added a different neckpiece which is attached to the bodice by straps. I then added some beading to the straps and texture to the neckpiece. I am going to add two more straps to the top, which I will sew on after I have fitted it to a model.
I will create another Arlecchino skirt to go with the top but in black instead of purple.

Fashion Illustrations Made From Flower Petals
Rather then using the traditional methods of illustrating, Grace Ciao, uses colourful flower petals to create her dresses on paper. Each petal is careful placed to create fitted bodices and flowing skirts. The texture of the petals make it look like real fabric and gives a 3D effect. This used with simple line drawn figures is really effective.
“They help me create prints which I otherwise couldn’t have thought of,” she explains. “I think petals work really well for illustration also because their delicacy and exquisiteness mimic those of a soft fabric.”
