Giles Deacon - Part 5

I attached the bodice to the skirt and then over loched the seam. I over locked the centre back of the dress.

Next, I over locked the side seams of all sleave parts and did a 1 cm seam allowence.

Then I gathered the top of the sleaves And attahed all sleave parts together.

Sloth Tread

I collected images of lazy poeple which lead on to messes because laziness can lead to messiness. The mess reminded me of tangled treads.
Next, I looked at tangled patterns.

Gluttony Tread

I visited the Chester museum where I photographed these roman pots, which we used to store food and drink. On these pots was a symbol which represented food and wine. This is linked to the god Bacchus.

The vines in the symbol reminded me of jungle vines and this lead on to jungle leaves.

Lust Thread

The next sin I chose was lust. I collected some primary research from the Chester Museum. I found a statue and a postcard which I think relates to lust. The postcard is of a famous dancer called Josephine Baker. This lead on to dancers and the shapes they form. I took these shapes and cut them out of fabric and experimented with placing them on a mannequin.

This lead on to burlesque dancing which linked to corsets. I did some shape development with the corset shape. The deformed body shape caused by the corsets reminded me of fans where they are pulled inwards.

Giles Deacon Project - Part 4

Yesterday, I did a bit more of the Giles Deacon dress because I was up to date with my work. I started by finishing of the neck facing by attaching it to the bodice with a 1cm seam allowance. Then I sewed  retaining stitch.

I over locked the side seams on the skirt and sewed them together.

Then I worked out which panels went where on the skirt and attached them the same way I did for the bodice. I over locked the seams.

Envy Thread

For the 4th sin I chose envy. I started by drawing objects that people can be envious of, like mobile phones and laptops. I took the shape of the laptop and created folds in some fabric.

The folds reminded me of origami and that lead onto spikes.

The Patiently Waiting Snowmen

A Dog That Models Menswear

A new website that kicked of this year, called Menswear Blog, uses a dog to model the clothes. This is one way to get the clothes noticed.  The website features all kinds of men's fashion trends, ranging from stylish Ralph Lauren ties to vintage blazers. I think this is a great way to get grab peoples attention, it certainly has grabbed my attention. I have to say this is one well dressed dog and is an incredible cute one.

Zonenkinder's The Tree Project

The German artist duo Zonenkinder created "The Tree Project". They transformed rotting tress into works of art. These artists enjoy creating art out of inanimate objects. They say "we are constantly in search of new forms of expression and we love to play with unusual surface and locations" I think these arts of works would make a stroll through the woods more interesting.

Futuristic Tron-Inspired Prom Dress

This Tron themed outfit was modelled by Victoria Schmidt at San Diego Comic Con in 2011. It was designed and constructed by Jin Yo. The costume is a re-imagining of the character Quorra's outfit as a party dress. It was inspired by the style of fashion designer Betsy Johnson.
