Toile Dairy 2

 

I started patterning the skirt for my dress. I managed to finish the pattern piece for the back. First I traced around a skirt block. Then I worked out what length I wanted and marked it on. I traced this out on another piece of paper. I cut a line to the points of each dart and then closed the dart. This caused the pattern to spread which creates the flare in the skirt. 

 

I got some more paper and traced out the adapted pattern and added a hem and 1cm seam allowance.

Toile Dairy 1

I started the toile diary for my final dress. The first thing I did was decide what my final design is and circle the difficult parts. I decided the origami and waist band were the difficult parts and created samples of these.

 

I sampled the origami in paper and fabric and decided it was better in the fabric. It looks more expensive and its meets the target audience. To make the origami, I have to cut out to squares of fabric and two squares of interfacing. I ironed the interfacing on to the fabric. Then I sewed the squares together and bagged them out.

 

 

I also worked out the sizes of the origami and where to place it on the dress.

 

 

 

 

   

Target Audience

 I had to create a profile on the target audience for my final dress. I created a mood board which coveys my what type of audience my dress is for.  

 

 

Design Development

Over the Easter holidays I had to finish designing my final dress.

 

 I started by drawing the last design from the previous brief and then I added a technique I found while researching designers.

 I then looked at how I would manufacture the top of the dress. I decided that I would have to make a basic top for the overlaid shapes to go on.

I decided to have the origami on the shoulder because when working on the mannequin I found this looked best.

 I looked online at fabric shops in London. I found some fabric which I thought would be ideal for my dress. I order samples of these and created some samples. The overlaid shapes, on the top of the dress are based on clam shells. I wanted fabric that conveys the iridescent look that shells have which this fabric does.  

I have gone for an aqua colour scheme.

 



 

I sampled the frill with all the different coloured silk samples I had. Although, my original design had the frills all the same colour while sampling I found that all the fabric worked well together.

 

I have decided to have the basic under top in white, that way it won't effect the colour of the fabric on top. I am embellishing the top with gems. I now have to find fabric which will be suitable to make origami.

   

 

Experiments with Different IllustratingTtechniques

The work I have to do over the Easter holidays  is finish my designs and experiment with illustrating techniques. I have tried a few different techniques that I think would appeal to a couture audience.

Illustration Research

For this brief I have to create a illustration for my final dress. My garment is for a ready to wear/couture audience. For this task I have to look at several techniques that suit this target market.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



Shirt Dress Project - Part 5

This is the final part to the project. All I needed to do, to finish the dress, was to make button holes and sew the buttons on. I chose heart shaped buttons to fit in with my Harajuku style. I used a mix of blue and yellow ones which were different sizes.
