Weird and Wonderful Dresses

A photographer called Ryan Yoon took pictures of several dresses made out of unusual materials. They were featured in a issue of Virgine magazine. Some of these dresses are really unusual such as the bread dress. I would love to find out who made them, because they would be good for the essay I am currently doing for college. It's all about using unusual materials.

This one is my favourite because I like the way they have used the vegetables, well at least that's what I think its made out of, to create he Shape of the dress.

Suzzanne Hamilton's Paper Creations

Graduate fashion designer Suzanne Hamilton (23)

Full length paper gown worn by model

A young fashion graduate called Suzanne Hamilton created a range of paper garments. She was inspired by fairy tales. These incredable garments are made from pages out of second hand romance novals. Hamlton glued the pages from the books together to create 6x7 paper sheets and laser cut the delicate designs. The dresses she created were floor length complete with train. I really like the romantic look the garments have and find the fact their made out of paper to be impressive.

"I really wanted to show that clothing can be reused and given new life, rather than thrown out. The fairytale dresses I’ve created show that something luxurious and romantic can be created using the most basic materials, materials which we throw away every day"
Suzanne Hamilton, Heriot-Watt Fashion Technology graduate

Observational Drawings

These are some observational drawings I did over the weekend.

Le Ballon Rouge

For college I had to create a photo shoot inspired by the French film "Le Ballon Rouge". The film is about a boy who finds a red balloon which forms a life force. It's about the friendship between the boy and the balloon. I based my photo shoot on red wellies and how a girl finds and befriends them, because I liked that in the film a person became friends with an object which is strange.

Photo Shoot for college

As part of the styling unit we did a photo shoot based on a word the tutor gave us. We had to work in pairs and I was paired with Georgia. Our word was happy. For inspiration for our photo shoot we looked at Katy Perry's California Gurls Music Video because we thought the theme of the video was happy and the colours used were ideal for our theme.

I made a version of Katy Perry's Candy Land dress for Georgia to wear, who was going to be the model in the photos. My biggest worry was that it wasn't going to fit her because I had to guess the size. Fortunately, it did fit her. I had to make it in a short period of time so I couldn't attach everything properly. This meant throughout the day we were taking the photo, things kept falling off the dress. We are still finding bits of the dress in the classroom.

I made the dress out of one of my sister's old dresses and attached a piece of white material to it. I then found some felt in my house and used that to make the ice cream and doughnut. My dog kept running off with these. Apparently he found it fun to try and chew the attachments for the dress. I did manage to make the dress in about two days without any of it being destroyed.

I was unable to post the image from the photo shoot because their to big to put on the blog.

Shopping In Manchester

When my sister came home for the week, I went shopping with her to Manchester. We spent so much in the shops that we couldn't afford to have lunch out, like we planned. When we got home we did a mini photoshoot with the clothes we bought. This of course was my sister's idea.

Manchester- gallery of cosume

A few weeks ago I visited the Manchester- Gallery of Costume. While there I collected primary research for my historical unit and carried out some more oberservational drawings. Some of the displays there were incredible, especially the dresses that were made out of paper.
