1,600 Papier-Mache Pandas

These adorable papier-mache pandas where created to send a message to the public about the tragic truth of these animals. About how they are in rapid decline because of the loss of their ecosystem, by human development.

A French Artist called Paulo Grangeon worked with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), PMQ and the creative studio AllRightsReserved to create all 1,600 Pandas to raise awareness. They are all made from recycled paper.

Each Panda represent a member of the species that is still alive today. It is a bit shocking to think that these are all that are left in the world. People who are involved in the project, hope that it will create world awareness to this environmental crises.

The pandas are currently on tour in Hong Kong and have already travelled to cities like Paris, Rome and berlin. Grangeon will also make four special edition paper pandas, which will go on display at PMQ in support of conservation and to promote the message of a coexistence between humans and nature.    

 

Colombina Outfit

 I  made the corset for my Colombina outfit . I think it looks good. I like how the fabric I have chosen, changes colour in the light. 

This will be lined after it has been fitted to a model. 

 I have started to manufacture the skirt for my Colombina outfit. I need to unpick and resew the godets because the fabric has caught in areas and has gathered at the seams. 

Arlecchino Outfit

 I have started to manufacture my first outfit for my collection. This is my Arlecchino character.

 The skirt shape has worked really well. The boning I have used holds it well. I had difficulty sewing the boning to the fabric and this has resulted in crooked top stitching. I am going to cover this up with frills because I am was unable to correct it.. 

The neckpiece is not to a couture standard with how it is finished. To correct this I am going to redo the bias binding.

I will finish the edges of the top with bias binding. This ill give it a nice finish. 

To style my collection I have bought masks to go with each outfit. For the Arlecchino outfit, I have chosen a gold and purple eye mask.

Chair Made From 2,700 Feet Of Fabric

This innovative chair was made by a Dutch designer called Richard Hutten. He developed the seat with patterns of fabric layered on top of one another to create this layered rock effect. He calls it "Layers Cloud Chair".

The chair is made from 545 pieces of colourful Divina fabric by Kvadrat, Europe's leading manufacture of  design textiles. The fabric has the texture of felt and is 100% wool. Making it very comfortable to sit on. each piece was cut using a CNC machine and then manually put together. 

Hutten main aim for the chair was for the fabric to be the central focus, stating "I wanted the design to be about the textile. Rather than using material as a cover, I created an object with the material". 

The chair will feature at the 2014 Salone del Mobile in Milan as part of the Kvadrat's Divina exhibition. 

Arlecchino Spec Drawing Update

This is the spec drawing for my arlecchino outfit. I have added seams and top stitching and the neck piece.  

Arlecchino Skirt Toile

 This is the toile for my Arlecchino skirt. The boning I have used works to hold the shape but I will  use stronger boning on the actual skirt. This will hold better.  

I needed to take out 1.5 cm of all the top panels of the skirt. The skirt caved in and by reducing the size of the panels this will stop it  from happening.  I also shortened it to a length of 34cm. I decided it looked better at this length.    

Brighella Toile



 I finished the toile for my Brighella outfit. I am pleased with the outcome and don't need to change my patterns. The top part of the dress will be made out fabric with 6% spandex in it. This will allow it to fit the body better and allow for movement.
