Zonenkinder's The Tree Project

The German artist duo Zonenkinder created "The Tree Project". They transformed rotting tress into works of art. These artists enjoy creating art out of inanimate objects. They say "we are constantly in search of new forms of expression and we love to play with unusual surface and locations" I think these arts of works would make a stroll through the woods more interesting.

Futuristic Tron-Inspired Prom Dress

This Tron themed outfit was modelled by Victoria Schmidt at San Diego Comic Con in 2011. It was designed and constructed by Jin Yo. The costume is a re-imagining of the character Quorra's outfit as a party dress. It was inspired by the style of fashion designer Betsy Johnson.

Giles Deacon Project - Part 3

I started the manufacturing of the dress today and managed to get quite a bit done. The first thing I did was cut out the interfacing for the pieces that need structure.  I then ironed the interfacing on to the pattern pieces.

Then I sewed the two back darts.

I over locked the side seams on the front and back bodice and then sewed them together with a 1cm seam allowance. It was then time to sew in the back panels.

Next, I sewed the shoulders.

I over locked the raw edges of the panel and pressed them.

Then over locked the side seams on the neck facing and sewed them together.

Then I sewed the shoulders on the neck facing.

Anger Thread

On my mind map I made for the seven deadly sins, I had wrote explosive emotion. This made me decide to look at nuclear explosions as my starting point. The clouds that the explosions create make me think of furrowing, which is a textile technique I had learnt in the textile workshops. I then moved on to look at the damage the explosions caused.

I tried to create the texture of the rubble on the mannequin. I then looked at the different textures caused by rubble and created a print from it.

The lines in the rubble reminded me of cracked glass. Using tucks I recreated the lines in cracked glass on fabric.

Giles Deacon Project - Part 2

I chose my fabric to make the dress out of but it isn't quite structured enough to make the dress. This will be solved by putting interfacing on the areas that need to be structured. I am making it out of two different fabric to make it more interesting. The next thing I did was cut out all the pattern pieces and place on the fabric. I then cut the fabric.

Greed thread

I have completed the second thread which is about greed. I started with two images I found that represented greed. I then drew some hands and mouths on the page, which I took from these images. I then looked at the clenched hand because I thought it represented greed and how greed grabs things and doesn't share.

I thought about what else was tightly closed which was clams. I noticed that the clams had a lined pattern on their shells. I recreated this on a small sample. I did some work on the mannequin with the shape of the clams. Clams contain pearls inside which moved me on to gem stones. This still links back to greed because gem stones are a desirable possession. The line drawing of the gems reminded me of origami.

I created a origami necklace and because I used magazine paper which has a shine to it, at first glace the origami looked like jewels.
