Origami is back

In my first year of college, I got really interested in origami. This lead me to incorporate it into my final dress at the college fashion show. This sustainable brief we are on now, has sparked my interest in it again and to make it Eco friendly, I am using scrap paper to make my paper creations.

So far I have made two cranes, one flapping bird, one rose, a dragon, a dinosaur, a dog and a dragonfly.

"I moulded my dresses to the curves of the female body, so that they called attention to its shape"

New Bag !

I saw this bag in New Look and couldn't resit buying it.

College Trip To Manchester

I went to Manchester with college today. It was to collect fabric ideas, inspiration and to find out about the eco policies some shops have. In the afternoon we visited the Gallery of Costume which had a special exhibit on Dior. I found his designs very inspiring because he always creates garments that make women look elegant and stylish. I can see from his designs he favoured the hourglass silhouette, which I have mentioned in previous blog posts is something I like to incorporate into my designs.

Above are some mannequins I saw in Topshop. I like the clothes on display, they show the current trend of  bowler hats, blazers and black ankle boots

I saw this incredible pin dress while I was at the Gallery Of Costume. While I was looking at it , I was thinking how did they get it in this room without hurting anyone in the process. It must of been really difficult.
This dress will be good for my sustainability brief because the designer has found a way to reuse these pins and  give them a new purpose.

From Somewhere

The brief I am doing at college is all about sustainability. For one of the tasks I have to work in pairs to research into a given label. My label is "from somewhere".

From Somewhere

The designer behind this label is Orsola De Castro. She takes fabric which is discarded on the floors of manufacturing rooms and textile mills and turns them in to high end, high street garments.

Out of all her designs this one is my favourite. The colours are vibrant and the shape is very elegant. She has managed to make scrap fabric look stylish.

Trends

As part of my college brief I have to look into current which will help influence the colours and silhouettes of my designs.

I like how the print trend stand out with the vibrant colours and crazy patterns. I chose to look at print because it is just a very fun and wacky trend. Although it isn't quite my style I kind of like it and would like to use it has inspiration.
The hourglass is probably my favourite silhouette of time. I like how it is timeless and elegant. When I shop for clothes this is what I look for. My liking of this silhouette comes from my love of the 1950s glamour.

3D Paintings

The artist Shaka created these paintings. I think they are amazing because they jump out at you. I love his use of vibrant colours on a ull background . The paintings reach out at you creating the effect that the paintings have life. . I would like to have a go at creating a 3D effect to my art work because I think it makes them more interesting. He has made them so life like that I can imagine the people coming to life and stepping out of the painting.
