The Venice Carnival

The Carnival of Venice is an annual festival, held in Venice, Italy. The reason I am doing a post about the Venice carnival, is because I find the masks and costumes very inspiring. I would love to actually  go to the festival one day.
In my 2nd of year college, I will have to create a whole collection and I would like to take some inspiration for it from the carnival. I just love how dramatic the costumes are and how they tell a story. I also like that there is a lot of detailing and embellishment to the garments.

Nieuwenhuyse Eco fashion collection

A fashion Designer called Stefanie Nieuwenhuyse created a very innovative collection made from plywood cut outs. Nieuwenhuyse collected the wood from her school's workshop which would have been thrown away into a landfill. The pattern on her garments remind me of snake skin. This has definitely given me ideas for my own sustainable outfit.

Eco Fashion

As part of my summer holiday homework, I have to research into designers who create eco fashion. This is in preparation for next year were I will have to design a sustainable outfit.

Gary Harvey creates recycled fashion. He takes pairs of jeans, newspapers, trench coats and army jackets and turns them into stylish vintage ball-gowns.
Gary Harvey is the former Creative Director of Levi Strauss and Dockers Europe designer for Levi's. He began designing these dresses during a freelance fashion campaign. He started by taking 42 pairs of levis and turned them into a dress. He has continued designing eco-fashion since.

I did some drawing of objects around the room at college.

Lamp Designs

Artist Bathsheba Grossman created these symmetrical geometry. She has been creating complex and mathematical designs for more than twenty years. The artist first creates a concept as a rough drawings and sometimes as a model made modelling clay. Grossman then builds the design digitally using CAD software. The final result is produced as a object using a 3D printing machine, which layers metal into the proper shape and then fuses the metal together using heat.

New Bag

My mum went to London for my sister graduation. Unfortunately, I couldn't go but she did bring me back a present. She got me this bag.

Work Experience Day Five

I finished tacking the flowers together. I then sewed sequins on to the bodice of a prom dress and did the same to a dress that was for a wedding.  Donna (the owner of the shop) offered me a job, so I'm really pleased about that.

Heart Pattern Dress

I made this dress last week. I bought the Simplicity pattern 1755 and chose a dark blue fabric and a fabric with a heart pattern to make the dress with. I am pleased with how it turned out and think that it will make a great dress for the summer.
