Street Artist Paints Murals Around the World

Parisian street artist Julien  Malland calls himself Globepainter because his work has taken him all over the world. Most recently, he created a whimsical piece in his hometown of Paris, joining 50 of the world' finest street artists in turning an old nightclub into an art gallery.

Last November, Malland put out a book called Extramuros that chronicled his life as a global street painter. Malland takes the time to really get to know the local community before he creates a piece of public art. Sometimes, he even includes the locals in his photos. The book shows many of the murals he created within a three year period in faraway countries like India, China, Mexico, Indonesia and Vietnam. Below I some of my favourites.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fashion Cinemagraphs

Photographer and filmmaker Lopez Mañas has collaborated with hairdressers from fashon styling company X-presion to produce what they call "the first hair collection in cinemagraph". The projects presents a series of animated images featuring elaborately styled models making subtle movements.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Toile Diary 4

I made a sample of the origami today. It was difficult to make it out of calico, so when I make it out of the real fabric, I will use something thinner.

 

 I cut too close to the stitching and this caused holes when I bagged it out. Next time I will be careful when I cut the bulk.

 To fix it for this sample I re-stitched in to the corners. 

Next, I patterned the arm facing.

 



Toile Diary 3

I had finished the pattern for the skirt in the last lesson, so constructed a toile of the skirt in calico. The shape was good and when I make it out of the actual fabric it will hold the shape better. I didn't have to make any alterations to the skirt pattern.  

 

 Next, I patterned the waist band and then toiled that in calico. Again I didn't have to make any alterations to the pattern.

 

 

 

 

 

 I made my bodice pattern by tracing around a bodice block.

 In my design the bodice it similar shape to a vest which meant I had to take away from the shoulder.

 

 

I am going to add a neck piece on to the bodice, so to make sure it doesn't choke the model I lowered the neck line.

 

 I then sewed the bodice together.

 

 When I placed it on the mannequin I discovered that it didn't quite fit at the bottom. To create a better fit I made the front darts 0.5 cm bigger.
